Kangaroo Island/Victor Harbor Dolphin Watch – Winner  

​

Kangaroo Island/Victor Harbor Dolphin Watch is a data-rich, citizen-led, community volunteer project undertaking research into dolphin behaviours, movement patterns, preferred habitat, migratory pathways and home range for populations on Kangaroo Island since 2005 and in Victor Harbor since 2011.

​

Project partners include Whale & Dolphin Conservation Australasia, AusOcean, Ecotourism operators, KI Sealink, South Australian Museum, Department for Environment and Water, Kangaroo Island Landscape Board, along with contributions from community volunteers.

iBandi

​

iBandi is a pop-up conservation citizen science project in the Adelaide Hills improving protection for endangered southern brown bandicoots by discovering suitable – but unoccupied – habitats.

​

A diverse range of project partners have made this a success, including the University of Adelaide Environment Institute, South Australian Department for Environment and Water, Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board, Trees for Life Inc. and a large number of community groups, organisations and individuals.

Echidna CSI - Winner

 

The Echidna Conservation Science Initiative (Echidna CSI) brings together world-leading ecological and molecular researchers, students, and the Australian community to address fundamental questions about echidnas to aid in their conservation.

​

Project partners include the University of Adelaide and Pelican Lagoon Research and Wildlife Centre, along with all the contributing citizen scientists. This citizen science initiative has been largely driven by PhD and Honours students.

South Australian Bryophyte collection transcription project

 

There are currently almost 30,000 bryophyte (liverworts, hornworts and mosses) envelopes from all over the world housed within the State Herbarium of South Australia. Citizen science has shared knowledge of these collections with the world, not just the few specialists who work on the collections in the Vaults of the State Herbarium of South Australia.

Project partners include the Herbarium of South Australia (DEW), Australian Museum (DigiVol), CSIRO, and numerous volunteer citizen scientists.
